We’re working with a well established, growing distribution business in the outdoor space. This is a company that partners with some of the best brands in the industry and has built a strong reputation across the UK and Europe, not just for its products, but for how it operates.

They’re now looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to join the team. This isn’t a narrow, siloed role. It’s a broad position with real exposure across the finance function and the wider business.

The role

You’ll sit within a small, high performing finance team, reporting into the Financial Controller and getting involved across multiple areas. This is a hands on role where you’ll be trusted to take ownership, not just follow process.

Your remit will include:
  • Payroll and payments across the UK and European entities, ensuring accuracy and deadlines are met
  • Calculating commissions and incentives, keeping things clear, consistent, and well documented
  • VAT returns and compliance across multiple registrations
  • Weekly bank reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies quickly
  • Supporting purchase ledger when needed to keep things running smoothly
  • Assisting with monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Working with budget holders to review spend and improve cost control
  • Supporting year end and audit processes
  • Contributing to budgeting and forecasting activity
  • Alongside the core responsibilities, you’ll also be encouraged to look at how things can be improved. Better processes, better reporting, better insight.

What they’re looking for

  • AAT qualified
  • Some experience in a similar role - will compromise on most aspects but payroll essential
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with data
  • Someone who takes pride in accuracy but doesn’t lose sight of the bigger picture
  • Organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Clear communicator who can work with non finance stakeholders
  • Ideally studying towards ACCA or CIMA, but not essential
